University of Crete is ranked 1st among Greek universities

Dec 8, 2023

For the second consecutive year, the University of Crete is ranked first among the Greek universities that participated in the global ranking of the university rating agency THE World University Ranking 2024.

Despite the increasing number of universities evaluated this year (1904 compared to 1799 last year), the University of Crete is in positions 501-600 together with the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA) occupying the first place among Greek universities.

The World University Rankings is in its 20th year, focusing on research-oriented universities and not on all higher education institutions that exceed 20,000 worldwide.

To measure the performance of universities in teaching, research quality and its impact, know-how transfer and international orientation, The World University Rankings uses 18 indicators divided into 5 pillars.

In particular, the University of Crete far surpasses its position in the general ranking in the quality of research and is in position 402 worldwide, while it is worth mentioning the assessment it received for income from industry, an indicator of knowledge transfer.

The position occupied by the University of Crete in an internationally recognized evaluation system for one more year is the result of the continuous effort of the university community for the development of its scholars, researchers and students.
