Petros Ioannou was born in Athens and grew up in Kyparissia, Messinia, Greece. He was admitted to the School of Medicine of the University of Crete, Greece, in 2005 and graduated in 2011. After his graduation, he was admitted to the Graduate Program “Molecular Basis of Human Diseases” of the Medical School of the University of Crete and graduated in 2013. He started his residency in Internal Medicine at the University Hospital of Heraklion, Greece, in December 2013, while at the same time, he performed his PhD in the Internal Medicine laboratory at the Medical School of the University of Crete from 2014 to the summer of 2017. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine in December 2018. He carried out further training in major centers abroad, such as the Royal Victoria Hospital of the McGill University Health Center in Montreal, Canada, the University College of London Hospitals, NHS Foundation Trust, London, England, at Oxford University Hospitals, NHS Foundation Trust, Oxford, England and Cape Town University and Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa, with a primary focus on Infections. He was elected Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the Medical School of the University of Crete, Greece, serving from October 2022. He has an active research interest in Internal Medicine, with a primary emphasis on Infectious Diseases, as seen from his work.
