Aikaterini Berdiaki received her BSc in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Kent, UK. She then pursued postgraduate studies (MSc) in Clinical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Surrey, UK. She completed her PhD in Developmental Biology at Imperial College London, at the Institute of Reproductive and Developmental Biology (IRDB), Hammersmith Hospital, London. The topic of her PhD was the investigation of a nuclear receptor (Peroxisome Proliferator-activated receptor γ) in human ovaries.
She is involved in the educational and research activities of the Histology-Embryology Department of the Medical School of the University of Crete from 2005 to present.

Research Interests
Her scientific interests focus on the study of the action of extracellular matrix molecules and their association with carcinogenesis. More specifically, she initially focused on the role of hyaluronic acid (HA) in fibrosarcoma and osteosarcoma, and then on the role of the HA receptor, RHAMM, in the pathogenesis of fibrosarcoma. Her studies also concern the action of SLRP proteoglycans on the cellular functions of osteosarcoma. She collaborated in research programs investigating the action of HA on the activation of keratinocytes by allergens as well as in the study of the interaction of nanoparticles (with potential therapeutic use) and the blood-brain barrier. Additionally, in recent years he has been dealing with the effect of a woman’s age on the function of the endometrium and is a member of the European Society of Human Reproduction (ESHRE).
