Dr Theodosios Filippatos, MD, MSc, PhD, is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the School of Medicine, University of Crete, Crete, Greece. He is scientific director of the Diabetologic and Metabolic Diseases Outpatient Clinic of the University Hospital of Heraklion, Heraklion, Crete, Greece. This Outpatient Clinic is a member of the European Lipid Clinic Network. As a diabetologist, lipidologist an National Scope Fellow of the World Obesity Federation, his research interests include diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease prevention, dyslipidemia and obesity.
He has 149 publications in peer-reviewed scientific international journals and has more than 5500 citations (h-index 44 – SCOPUS September 2025).
He has given more than 100 invited lectures in Greek and International congresses.
He is elected Special Secretary of the Hellenic Atherosclerosis Society (www.atherosclerosis.gr).
Education
From 2004 to 2017 he was a Scientific Associate of the Department of Lipid Metabolism Disorders and Obesity at the University Hospital of Ioannina, while he has studied with a scholarship from the Hellenic Atherosclerosis Society in the United Kingdom (Royal Free Hospital of London) in metabolic disorders and the prevention of cardiovascular disease. In 2017, he completed the postgraduate program “Clinical Nutrition” of the Department of Dietetics – Nutrition Science of Harokopio University. He has received the specialization in Diabetes Mellitus.
